China Bulang Lao Cha Tou Ripe Puerh 2021

£15.00

This China Bulang Lao Cha Tou Ripe Puerh 2021 originates from the Bulang mountains of Menghai. Lao Cha Tou is naturally formed during the puerh fermentation stage, with years of ageing lending sweetness and depth.
The liquor is clear and bright, with a pure fragrance. Notes of dried jujube and caramel are present, while the flavour is mellow and smooth, sweetness flowing across the palate.
Its energy or chaqi, is warm and steady, spreading through the chest and settling into the abdomen, promoting relaxation and a calmness.

Lao Cha Tou is also known as (or translates as) Old Tea Head.

Formed naturally during the fermentation pf puerh tea, these nuggets develop as the tea undergoes high heat and humidity, causing the leaves to condense into uneven chunks. After high-temperature steaming for sterilisation, they are hand-sorted to remove impurities, resulting in clean, uniform pieces.
It takes several infusions before the nuggets slowly loosen and unfold.

Available in 50gm pouches

Recommended Infusion instructions:
Boiling but not boiled water (100 degrees Celsius – fish eyes bubble size, see Tea Making for more info)
4-6gms of tea leaves to 100ml gaiwan/clay teapot
You can do a rinse but I don’t as I find with most teas, the first infusion is the most revealing.
Infusions 1 to 3: 15-20 seconds
Infusions 4 to 6: 20-30 seconds
Infusions 7+: 30 seconds +

This was a surprise! I really like it. The first brew was elegant and transparent, followed by much deeper darker but still clear brews. Warming, energizing and delicious!
