Taiwan Red Tea Leaves

Taiwan Red (or black) tea leaves is not as popular as Oolong tea in Taiwan and therefore less is produced.

Sun Moon Lake (the largest natural lake in Taiwan) and on the East Coast in the Hualien and Taitung districts is where pockets of red tea are still being processed.

There is a special tea plant used to produce red tea which is a hybrid produced from a tea plant from Myanmar called T-18. The T-18 produces a whole leaf red tea which has a rounded, full bodied liquor with flavour notes of prune and raisin.
