as you had to book in advance to have a tour of the estate and botanical garden and it wasn’t cheap although you would have had a personal guide.
We did however buy some Classic and Afternoon Tea which has tea from the Tregothnan estate blended with other tea.
It was nearing lunchtime by the time we had finished chatting and buying tea and so decided to drive to the Smugglers Cove Tea Bar which is owned and run by the Tregothnan Estate. We took a road that looked increasingly like it was going to take us into the unknown as we had to drive at less than 20 miles an hour due to the narrow and often winding road.
We had sandwiches and soup for lunch and then creamed tea which featured two scones – one plain and one with raisins, clotted cream and lovely sweet berry jam.
This past the time away while it was raining outside. We had a great view of the cove with people coming and going, either by boat or car. We could have easily stayed for dinner but had to get home and timed it perfectly to be the last car on the ferry to cross to the other side of the water.
I totally recommend the drive from the Tea Estate to the Smugglers Cove Tea Bar albeit drive very carefully, and also the food and creamed tea and hospitality of the Tea Bar itself.
