China Ya Shi Xiang Duck Shit Aroma Dancong Oolong Tea

This China Ya Shi Xiang Duck Shit Aroma Dancong Oolong Tea is a Phoenix mountain dancong oolong loose leaf tea and has a complex flavour profile of two distinct flavours with one note following the other, mainly of floral orchid with a hint of peach.

Ya Shi Xiang translates literally to duck shit aroma, or smells like duck shit. However, its good to know it’s in the name only and not the flavour or aroma!

The name has a story behind it that said that the people in the village that grew the tea bushes that produced this highly fragrant and aromatic dancong oolong tea, spread rumours around that the soil where the tea bushes grew, which was yellow-brown in colour was due to duck shit. Therefore their tea bushes had a “duck shit aroma” which kept people from stealing their tea leaves and bushes.

The tea leaves can take multiple infusions and is great for gongfu cha sessions.

Recommended Infusion instructions:
Boiling but not boiled water (95 degrees Celsius – fish eyes bubble size, see Tea Making for more info)
5-8gms of tea leaves to 150ml gaiwan/clay teapot
You can do a rinse but I don’t as I find with most teas, the first infusion is the most revealing.
Infusions 1 to 5: 5-10 seconds
Infusions 6 to 10: 10-15 seconds
